When I was eighteen I surrendered my heart to you,<\/span><\/p>\n

To gain your hand in marriage I had so much to do,<\/span><\/p>\n

Marriage was in the future hidden in both our mind,<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone kept saying true love is very hard to find,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Upon first sight I knew you would be my only life love,<\/span><\/p>\n

So many dreams of you plus many signs from above,<\/span><\/p>\n

To have seen you in my dreams before we ever met,<\/span><\/p>\n

Showed the direction for my heart to never forget,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So taken by your beauty I could hardly stand or speak,<\/span><\/p>\n

Your beautiful eyes and smile are part of your mystique,<\/span><\/p>\n

Allow me into your life I pleaded deep within my being,<\/span><\/p>\n

When I would sleep at night you were all I was dreaming,<\/span><\/p>\n

I surrendered my heart but I was wild making you unsure,<\/span><\/p>\n

Plus your requests for us to date were refused so very sure,<\/span><\/p>\n

I went my way in life knowing someday we would date,<\/span><\/p>\n

Admiring you and telling you so, we found a way to relate,<\/span><\/p>\n

Promising I\u2019d marry you someday my words were sincere,<\/span><\/p>\n

After boot camp allowed to date when at last I held you near,<\/span><\/p>\n

Tears fell from my breaking heart as I held riverboat orders,<\/span><\/p>\n

Boat gunners life\u2019s were short in combat of political borders,<\/span><\/p>\n

My letters taken by your mother caused misunderstanding,<\/span><\/p>\n

I was unsure of us when suddenly you\u2019re where I am standing,<\/span><\/p>\n

The magic in your heart placed you where you needed to be,<\/span><\/p>\n

So often our flame was kept alive by shared love magically,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Unknown to each other, to the other we had dedicated our life,<\/span><\/p>\n

I had vowed to return to you and I did to ask you to be my wife,<\/span><\/p>\n

Every day since that day we were more committed to the other,<\/span><\/p>\n

Time had given us the years to show our love for one another,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So many things tried to pull us apart yet our love stayed true,<\/span><\/p>\n

The draft, war, your sister, mother, and age, all against you,<\/span><\/p>\n

Each time I saw you since 1965 I declared my love aloud,<\/span><\/p>\n

Just to be seen at your beautiful side made me feel so proud,<\/span><\/p>\n

Since hearing yes to marry me my love has grown each day,<\/span><\/p>\n

I am sincere in stating my growing love, words I love to say,<\/span><\/p>\n

In times of angst or trouble my love never faltered for you,<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re more beautiful each and every day, this I say so true,<\/span><\/p>\n
