When Daddy passed away I was holding your hand,<\/p>\n
Then I saw a teardrop fall upon your gold wedding band,<\/p>\n
But now you\u2019ve forgotten me and remember all the rest,<\/p>\n
It\u2019s okay Mama since I knew you longer, that\u2019s the best,<\/p>\n

The black curly hair I wore long and I wore for so long,<\/p>\n
Was cut short when I was drafted saying it didn\u2019t belong,<\/p>\n
You didn\u2019t give up when told tales of a war zone roam,<\/p>\n
Honorable discharge at this time meant little back home,<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s a chance you can hear me I\u2019m thanking you now,<\/p>\n
You knew I wouldn\u2019t quit and that I was still alive somehow,<\/p>\n
A mother\u2019s love for her son was shown to all wanting to see,<\/p>\n
Thank you Mama for all the calls it took to finally get me free,<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t remember coming home as I was still in a bad way,<\/p>\n
In truth an angel from heaven brought me home that day,<\/p>\n
If only I could walk a path of Ireland in your head with you,<\/p>\n
We would walk and laugh when I took you to your home too,<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Perhaps a golden memory of love is where you now dwell,<\/p>\n
The joy of holding hands with an Irish lad you knew too well,<\/p>\n
May angels guide your heart and mind along paths of joy,<\/p>\n
Take another path if happiness is there for you to enjoy,<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At last you\u2019ll cross that golden bridge thru a golden gate,<\/p>\n
No doubt that young handsome dad of mine won\u2019t hesitate,<\/p>\n
To hold you in his arms as our Savior quenches your thirst,<\/p>\n
And you\u2019ll hear \u201cthank you\u201d from the one you forgot first.<\/p>\n
