I crossed the boundaries of time and space for you, it\u2019s true,<\/span><\/p>\n

With mental fortitude I tailored a craft inside which I flew,<\/span><\/p>\n

Reality ruled as Vietnam\u2019s war was reason I escaped to you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I held you dear as I understood you were the sanity I\u2019d return to,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Still I crave my lips placed upon a liquor bottle\u2019s neck, yes I do,<\/span><\/p>\n

I avoided napalm\u2019s hell with heat above now I need escape to,<\/span><\/p>\n

Therapy and healing will return me to war if it\u2019s what I want to do,<\/span><\/p>\n

As tears fall I beg, have you not heard my sobs echo around you?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My hair has grayed and muscles I gained are gone, my mind too,<\/span><\/p>\n

Memories of men\u2019s brutality upon my frame cause tears to brew,<\/span><\/p>\n

Where is my photograph of her that I\u2019m desperately addicted to?<\/span><\/p>\n

Angel of saving light please guide me home, Patti I beg this of you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve written rhymes of love for you numbering a thousand, it\u2019s true,<\/span><\/p>\n

Help cleanse my flesh I beg I\u2019m made too unclean to be near you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m filthy through as I was raped by thirty six men paying their due,<\/span><\/p>\n

Dislocation torture wrecked body and mind but for dreams of you,<\/span><\/p>\n

These lines upon my face were your gifts of time to me, a few,<\/span><\/p>\n

No letters to my name creates a new name but not inflicted by you,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo Mail Pat\u201d is how I\u2019m known for two years now, in this hospital too,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve lines upon my face from worrying of you finding someone new,<\/span><\/p>\n

Not long ago I once stood erect, also handsome tall, I wasn\u2019t askew,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve a story of hardship in my heart and my war journey return to you,<\/span><\/p>\n

The wear upon my face is a soldier\u2019s disgrace, so is citizens hate too, <\/span><\/p>\n

Too tears I cried alone in a foreign cell as my remaining lifetime flew,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now I\u2019ll put my fate in God\u2019s hands as I pray you\u2019re praying for me too,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve kept your picture safe from harm inside my flesh I have held you,<\/span><\/p>\n

In my heart and mind I have held you in a lover\u2019s waltz, it\u2019s all true,<\/span><\/p>\n

Though dislocated and unable to stand I smiled because, I love you,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To hear birds sing lifted my heart to enter precious memories of you,<\/span><\/p>\n

With the convertible top down your beautiful face framed by sky blue,<\/span><\/p>\n

I touched American soil from a stretcher laid flat while thinking of you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m returning home, I\u2019ll kiss you again if it\u2019s the last thing I do, I love you.<\/span><\/p>\n
