While deep in thought I thought of you and I wondered why,<\/span><\/p>\n

Why was a lifetime of love given to such an unworthy guy,<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve loved you since my birth although it doesn\u2019t sound true,<\/span><\/p>\n

How you wonder could an infant and child be in love with you,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have loved the idea of love and loved the thought of but one,<\/span><\/p>\n

One angel, one person, that loves but one until her life is done,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her heart, your heart, is given me, in thought, in your soul too,<\/span><\/p>\n

How did our bond come to be, do my spoken words ring true?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Those values of you were born within my soul some time ago,<\/span><\/p>\n

I was in love with that girl when desires of love began to show,<\/span><\/p>\n

Through a window late one night my eyes vowed my life to her,<\/span><\/p>\n

Towards her I walked in stride knowing love was all I could offer,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I knew she knew somehow that her life was now bound to mine,<\/span><\/p>\n

Live life two years more then you will be given love of a lifetime,<\/span><\/p>\n

From a locking of our together we became conjoined as but one,<\/span><\/p>\n

Live life and have some fun as upon my return that time is done,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A wartime draft notice took me away from her and all I knew,<\/span><\/p>\n

Loving her had filled my short life and she would fill it in war too,<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh how my heart cried for her, oh for but her tender touch I cried,<\/span><\/p>\n

While home after two years our kiss stated our love was undenied,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To be without word from her or she without letters written of me,<\/span><\/p>\n

Became so very painful to me and her, akin to a wartime tragedy,<\/span><\/p>\n

Letters written of my hand were never seen by her beautiful eyes,<\/span><\/p>\n

A letter written by her could have strengthened a heart that cries,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It took nearly forty years for confirmation of my written word,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her mother said she read my letters in a manner jokingly absurd,<\/span><\/p>\n

My thoughts were \u201cat last!\u201d as I\u2019m sure doubt filled Patti\u2019s mind,<\/span><\/p>\n

Bless the heart of my little bride as hiding my letters was unkind,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Her eyes were filled with tears upon her mother\u2019s announcement,<\/span><\/p>\n

I had many things to say yet I held my words at bay of deployment,<\/span><\/p>\n

For her heart I didn\u2019t speak my mind as I could see pain in her eyes,<\/span><\/p>\n

From lonely word of heart it\u2019s true, at night a lonely soldier cries,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On a hot August evening I was born with Texas heat all around,<\/span><\/p>\n

At times sidewalks held the heat so you could fry on the ground,<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s true of the heat but also of the cold as it could go far down,<\/span><\/p>\n

Bugger by night they\u2019d say of a wild place called Borger town,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Despite the heat there I was, eight pounds was full of love for her,<\/span><\/p>\n

The dreams I\u2019d have were all of her, my love I would not squander,<\/span><\/p>\n

I swear that love for her is more precious than its weight in gold,<\/span><\/p>\n

How I wonder could that be, how much gold is in a 24 karat hold?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To be loved by her is precious, more precious than the richest mine,<\/span><\/p>\n

She truly gives her life to you as she cares for you with love divine,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her heart is a vessel of undying love that I\u2019m blessed to have known,<\/span><\/p>\n

From her kiss I am made a better man and of her love, I have flown,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve heard her voice in a whisper of comfort for my battered frame,<\/span><\/p>\n

Somehow she sought me out upon my return and called my name,<\/span><\/p>\n

Within her soul she knew that had survived the war to return to her,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her love is true and given to me, the boy with only his name to offer.<\/span><\/p>\n
