My day will come and I’ll have my throne,<\/span><\/p>\n

In a little place that I’ll call home,<\/span><\/p>\n

Arms wide open and banners on high,<\/span><\/p>\n

Jets will fly over in a clear blue sky,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A parade is scheduled just for me,<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ll be riding so high for all to see,<\/span><\/p>\n

They’ll slap my back and shake my hand,<\/span><\/p>\n

Have live music and a bandstand,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s what they’ll do when I come home,<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ll invite my brothers up on my throne,<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s what we’ll do when I go home,<\/span><\/p>\n

My pain will leave and I’ll be well,<\/span><\/p>\n

Should I wait for you or should I go through?<\/span><\/p>\n

When my time comes I need to know what to do,<\/span><\/p>\n

Or should I crossover and pray you don’t fall apart?<\/span><\/p>\n

Help me in my misery; I’ve been so far my friend,<\/span><\/p>\n

I have yet a long way to go; I’ll get there in the end,<\/span><\/p>\n

Why has it been so long since I have had a good day,<\/span><\/p>\n

For over twenty years I wake up feeling this way,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let the blood flow out my veins I’m ready for a change,<\/span><\/p>\n

It is not a harsh request it isn’t really strange,<\/span><\/p>\n

New blood may mean new life; is it possible?<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s something that couldn’t hurt although improbable,<\/span><\/p>\n

Lay me down upon a stone that the lump I may feel,<\/span><\/p>\n

It will bring a new pain there something new and real,<\/span><\/p>\n

Torture brings desperate thoughts I need to explain,<\/span><\/p>\n

Day after every day is much more of the same,<\/span><\/p>\n

Forgive me please forgive me, I’m on my bended knee,<\/span><\/p>\n

Teardrops fill my eyes, so much that I can’t see,<\/span><\/p>\n

A sob has entered my voice I really have no choice,<\/span><\/p>\n

If He would just remove my pain I could rejoice,<\/span><\/p>\n

I haven’t lost my way; I needed a way to vent,<\/span><\/p>\n

I haven’t forsaken Him, no need to repent,<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes a man has to cry to restart his way,<\/span><\/p>\n

As the Sunset Comes (A Sailboat of Paper M\u00e2ch\u00e9)<\/span><\/h2>\n

As the sunset comes I lay my weary head to rest that I may drift away,<\/span><\/p>\n

In a sailboat made of paper m\u00e2ch\u00e9 and a sail of childish dreams I made way,<\/span><\/p>\n

The dancing elephants I could see ashore as they waved their trunks hello,<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon water made of glass I made way with no wake or ripple left in tow,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The water seemed true of glass as my vessel slid quietly beneath clouds above,<\/span><\/p>\n

As my heart seemed to cease I grew heavy, then realized I was absent my true love<\/span><\/p>\n

No longer did I feel a child with dreams, then the weight of the world fell down,<\/span><\/p>\n

A storm so fierce it tossed me to and fro for hours, until my vessel struck ground,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Battle sounds came from this land as crying men were heard so clear,<\/span><\/p>\n

Cries of men in anguish of heart, for those departed were friends held dear,<\/span><\/p>\n

Friends I knew so long ago that walked the draft line with me, toe-to-heel,<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a land of war and fear that brought memories of pains that I still feel,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I pushed away as quick as I could to rid my heart and mind of so much woe,<\/span><\/p>\n

The memories I’d hoped to forget came flooding back of a time long ago,<\/span><\/p>\n

My paper boat is damaged now and water is seeping through the shell,<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh where has my angel gone? I must find her before this turns into my hell,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I so was young when I set sail so long ago but I quickly feel so very old,<\/span><\/p>\n

How can I go home so worn of soul with a heart worn of war turned cold?<\/span><\/p>\n

Not a dime do I hold nor do I have reason to push this vessel home for more,<\/span><\/p>\n

Moments of laughter are but memories that are behind a faraway door,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A moment in time when the heart does cease may release our soul,<\/span><\/p>\n

When released of our earthly bonds we often review our life in whole,<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet other times an awaking occurs to pull the strings of a hardened heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

Each time I journey afar to dimensions unknown I need her from the start,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her hazel eyes traced with blue and rust must be seen once more I pray,<\/span><\/p>\n

With vigor I hadn’t known in years I found a way to sail for another day,<\/span><\/p>\n

Exhaustion played games with my mind as I saw her standing everywhere,<\/span><\/p>\n

Tears of loneliness came rushing down, as I reached to touch her flowing hair,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sleep came fitfully as I resisted rest because I feared I might lose my way,<\/span><\/p>\n

But sleep came as sleep will come after not sleeping for more than a day,<\/span><\/p>\n

My sense of touch said she was near as I wakened to an angel at my side,<\/span><\/p>\n

She laughs at my tears as I hold her tight, for she has no idea I almost died.<\/span>
\n<\/a><\/p>\n

Clarity of Mind<\/span><\/h2>\n

I fear the clarity of my mind is fading with time,<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, I have apprehension that someday I won’t know your mine,<\/span><\/p>\n

Watching my mother lose who she was to herself and me,<\/span><\/p>\n

If I ever become beyond who I am don’t forget me, I plea,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now your mother’s mind is fading away and it’s breaking my heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

I fear someday very soon I won’t realize the fading starts,<\/span><\/p>\n

Am I fading now and the blindness has blocked my view,<\/span><\/p>\n

I can’t bear the thought that someday I wouldn’t know you,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If it should happen I would much prefer to be set free,<\/span><\/p>\n

My heart would still be yours, it’s just my broken mind wouldn’t be,<\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t want to be that pet on a leash tying you down,<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather that, place me with care into a home near if found,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When seen on visit day place a kiss upon my lips and touch my face,<\/span><\/p>\n

I just know the same excitement that fuels me now will take place,<\/span><\/p>\n

It might just be a slight smile on my face but you’ll still own my heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

When we both cease to exist we will no longer be apart,<\/span><\/p>\n

Why in life is the burden so heavy when we should be blessed?<\/span><\/p>\n

Being rejoined together in heaven will mean we passed the test,<\/span><\/p>\n

The man you married is no longer there and it tears me apart,<\/span><\/p>\n

It isn’t right that you’re not with the man you gave your heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even now on this day I burden you with worry and care,<\/span><\/p>\n

You seldom complain about the load and your time you’re forced to share,<\/span><\/p>\n

I have this phobia of being away from you and greeting sudden death,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s sad but I have to say “I love you” with my final breath,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The biggest thing I have to say is that I’m sorry it’s now this way,<\/span><\/p>\n

I never dreamed it would be like this on our wedding day,<\/span><\/p>\n

We are two seniors hand-in-hand but yours is supporting mine,<\/span><\/p>\n

You are such a sweet little angel becoming more so with time,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I want to ensure that you know my heart is eternally yours,<\/span><\/p>\n

When written in verse the words are there to always assure,<\/span><\/p>\n

Read them someday when I’m not around but know I’m really there,<\/span><\/p>\n

I love you eternally, thank you for loving me and the life we share.<\/span><\/p>\n

Late in Your Life<\/span><\/h2>\n

Late in your life when your world is about to fall,<\/span><\/p>\n

Look to the heavens and remember just to call,<\/span><\/p>\n

Don’t be afraid, I will always love you and be near,<\/span><\/p>\n

If you listen carefully you may hear I love you in your ear,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s only that you are lonely and know I’ll be lonely too,<\/span><\/p>\n

Though I seem far away I will find a way to comfort you,<\/span><\/p>\n

A slight breeze with a soft and pleasant scent,<\/span><\/p>\n

Just recognize that it could be heaven sent,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s ok to be lonely and cry out in your pain,<\/span><\/p>\n

When the world starts to fall please call my name,<\/span><\/p>\n

I know the response can’t and won’t be the same,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s ok to feel this way there is no need to explain,<\/span><\/p>\n

The world needs you to keep bad in balance,<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, how I would love to hold you for one more dance,<\/span><\/p>\n

There is nothing wrong with you if it’s still hurting you,<\/span><\/p>\n

Look to all those you love to keep from feeling blue,<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s beautiful young children that love you very much,<\/span><\/p>\n

The Grey of Autumn<\/span><\/h2>\n

The grey of the autumn sky brings a tear to my heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

A change is coming and I can’t stop it, alas it’ll start,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s been coming for such a long time and I can’t push it away,<\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday I became much older and it seemed to happen in a day,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m not ready yet to see my brother, mother and father,<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of passing on there are other things I’d rather,<\/span><\/p>\n

I look at her wonderful beauty and I wonder quite loud,<\/span><\/p>\n

She has no idea of how happy she’s made me and proud,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was born to be with this one little lady of beauty through,<\/span><\/p>\n

Beauty through meaning she’s beautification inside too,<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s my reason of birth and it’s been truly baffling to me,<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve been paying a price to be here but this is the best place to be,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stand here beside me and see her as I do please,<\/span><\/p>\n

She is a wonder of the world as much as seven seas,<\/span><\/p>\n

Why I was blessed to love her is a mystery to remain that way,<\/span><\/p>\n

But most mysterious is what would make her love me anyway,<\/span><\/p>\n

My knees are worn from prayer to keep her near,<\/span><\/p>\n

The change of a grey sky is something a man should fear,<\/span><\/p>\n

Spring and youth has passed me by that’s why I fear the grey sky,<\/span><\/p>\n

The change after autumn could be bidding goodbye,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But long fall and winter seasons happen now and then,<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope to wake one morning and ask fall where winter has been,<\/span><\/p>\n

A long time coming as the song sings a tear into my eye,<\/span><\/p>\n

A change is gonna come and all the old folks know why,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But let the season pass me by cause I have a reason for not leaving,<\/span><\/p>\n

She still carries youth in her veins and she has me believing,<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m as much a part of her as she is of me and her youth keeps me here,<\/span><\/p>\n

When I hold her in my arms I don’t feel old man winter creeping near,<\/span><\/p>\n

So lift me off my knees and push me through the door,<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m gonna keep living through all the pain that’s in store,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her kiss is all it takes though there is so much more,<\/span><\/p>\n

Just spend a few minutes in her arms as I’ve done before.<\/span>

My dance with you is getting near the end,<\/span><\/p>\n

Hold me close and know my love I will send,<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember how much I’ve loved you, please be strong,<\/span><\/p>\n

Clutch me tight for this may be my last fight,<\/span><\/p>\n

You know I’ve fought hard and kept you in sight,<\/span><\/p>\n

I see myself, so sad of expression walking in deep depression,<\/span><\/p>\n

Wanting to find my way, to halt my world of desperation,<\/span><\/p>\n

So tired I can hardly pull my feet forward to take a step,<\/span><\/p>\n

Thinking of all the lonely nights that I’ve cried and wept,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This place of loneliness, darkness because she isn’t here,<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember days of past when my angel was so near,<\/span><\/p>\n

She took the first step through heaven’s door,<\/span><\/p>\n

It will never again be as it once was long before,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I look up to say a prayer and rain pelts my crying eyes,<\/span><\/p>\n

Will this broken soul ever again see clear blue skies,<\/span><\/p>\n

A shuffling walk that hardly moves me forward is all,<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s left if I need to slowly advance other than crawl,<\/span><\/p>\n

Am I still a man or am I a being of lost sad existence,<\/span><\/p>\n

Will the darkness lead to such a desperate place,<\/span><\/p>\n

That I can stop crawling and rest in my final destination,<\/span><\/p>\n

If she isn’t there then I keep crawling in desperation,<\/span><\/p>\n

Ten years now that I’ve been in the darkness of life,<\/span><\/p>\n

How desperately I want to be reunited with my wife,<\/span><\/p>\n

Who could have dreamed I would be here today,<\/span><\/p>\n

She’s gone, I’m all alone and I’ve lost my way,<\/span><\/p>\n

What a sad, sad tale to tell to those that want to hear,<\/span><\/p>\n

In the darkness I look around and there’s no one near,<\/span><\/p>\n

What a broken dream, what a sad broken dream,<\/span><\/p>\n

It seems I’m standing at a sad, tear-filled stream,<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps soon our eyes again will meet,<\/span><\/p>\n

I know it won’t happen on Andy’s lonely street,<\/span><\/p>\n

My heart beats weakly but sadly it does so each day,<\/span><\/p>\n

A bad thing to say but please stop beating, I pray,<\/span><\/p>\n

The memories ride my mind to the next place of sorrow,<\/span><\/p>\n

I loom from the shadows of dark days and broken tomorrow,<\/span><\/p>\n

To be reunited with her and end all of my pain,<\/span><\/p>\n

At last, thank God, I feel a hard broken pain in my chest,<\/span><\/p>\n

Today is the day to say goodbye to family, friends and all,<\/span><\/p>\n

Are you happy in your treatment of me or did you stall?<\/span><\/p>\n

It travels both ways; it is a two-way street,<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you think somewhere in the middle we will meet?<\/span><\/p>\n

Lay my casket down and take it ever so slow,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s the last you have to do for me then you can go,<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried very hard to do my best for each of you,<\/span><\/p>\n

I know I failed some; there were things I couldn’t do,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was so ill so many days and couldn’t lift my head,<\/span><\/p>\n

For you to come see me, I have to be dead,<\/span><\/p>\n

Don’t mean to sound bitter but I made it on my own,<\/span><\/p>\n

Older brother fought a lot of illness and died all alone,<\/span><\/p>\n

It’ll be so wonderful if my legs and feet don’t hurt every step I take,<\/span><\/p>\n

After a seizure the fear of not knowing who I am when I wake,<\/span><\/p>\n

The fear in people’s eyes and the nasty remarks they make,<\/span><\/p>\n

My poor sweet little wife trying to shelter and protect my being,<\/span><\/p>\n

She tries to hide my shakes to keep prying eyes from seeing,<\/span><\/p>\n

Will I again move my bowels each day in an unpainful way,<\/span><\/p>\n

Healing those five shattered discs would allow me to run and play,<\/span><\/p>\n

What kindness it would be dear Lord to no longer vomit after a meal,<\/span><\/p>\n

To rid my skin and scalp of psoriasis so I no longer peel,<\/span><\/p>\n

Liver and kidney stones have taken a toll on my life,<\/span><\/p>\n

Worse yet watching me suffer is hard on my wife,<\/span><\/p>\n

Rid me of those and diabetes insipidus would help me so,<\/span><\/p>\n

No vomit and constant urination mean no containers where I go,<\/span><\/p>\n

The pain of irritable bowel is not going to be a thing I miss,<\/span><\/p>\n

The only thing I’ll miss is Patti and her sweet little kiss,<\/span><\/p>\n

Internal bleeding from the AVM’s arterial rupture causes harm,<\/span><\/p>\n

In one of my dearest memories you seemed a beautiful little toy, <\/span><\/p>\n

The moment our eyes entranced, past memories seemed to buoy, <\/span><\/p>\n

I suddenly understood as past life memories were in fast deploy, <\/span><\/p>\n

Squeeze my hand so slightly as you tell them to pull the machine away, <\/span><\/p>\n

In the hold of my morning angel with sunlight or moonbeams astray, <\/span><\/p>\n

Whisper words tenderly to hear “I love you, I’ve always felt this way”<\/span><\/p>\n

As I have done this before my heart will break before I’m there to stay, <\/span><\/p>\n

I have returned to you at least five times while between life and death, <\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve watched you sob so uncontrollably you could hardly catch a breath, <\/span><\/p>\n

Time is more narrow now than when first married let’s not forget, <\/span><\/p>\n

The years to departure have lessened now until your soul too will let, <\/span><\/p>\n

Five times I’ve lingered ‘tween heaven n’ earth praying to return to you, <\/span><\/p>\n

My body has aged to be broken beyond God’s willingness to redo, <\/span><\/p>\n

God has granted me more time than rust should stand near gold’s glow, <\/span><\/p>\n

The rust of my being is beyond time’s ravage and what doctors know, <\/span><\/p>\n

The hand of Jesus Christ has protected me through life so many times, <\/span><\/p>\n

As I review my life I should have written more of Him in prayer rhymes, <\/span><\/p>\n

I will be accepted as the wayward prodigal son although I’m with sin, <\/span><\/p>\n

I have since then accepted Him and asked forgiveness deep within, <\/span><\/p>\n

As I have asked of God I also ask of you my angel so wonderfully true, <\/span><\/p>\n

Please forgive this rusted worn soul for the harm of heart I’ve done to you, <\/span><\/p>\n

My heart has been yours for as long as I have known your beautiful eyes, <\/span><\/p>\n

Within my heart there is no equal to your beauty under God’s blue skies, <\/span><\/p>\n

I have stopped at the threshold and prayed once more but time is denied, <\/span><\/p>\n

Love Going Home<\/span><\/h2>\n

Look one last time to find the depth of her soul,<\/span><\/p>\n

Don’t shed a tear he tells himself of his silly goal,<\/span><\/p>\n

Gaze deep into her eyes as though the first time,<\/span><\/p>\n

He sees her as perfect of profile, to him sublime,<\/span><\/p>\n

The pedestal she has stood upon is made of him,<\/span><\/p>\n

Ninety years of endurance has left him very thin,<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet he remained though called home time ‘n’ again,<\/span><\/p>\n

Victory to her admirer was one more second to win,<\/span><\/p>\n

Behind closed doors he sobs and regains composure,<\/span><\/p>\n

Look at the two of them, true love doesn’t know closure,<\/span><\/p>\n

He would endure anything to gain one more day for her,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her pretty smile brings him to his feet although it’s torture,<\/span><\/p>\n

He allows no others to bring water to quench her thirst,<\/span><\/p>\n

She whispers softly that she will know the glories first,<\/span><\/p>\n

Unable to contain himself he holds her and cries aloud,<\/span><\/p>\n

Sweet husband for seventy years you’ve made me proud,<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayers of love can bring more in return than known,<\/span><\/p>\n

To the last moment extreme love for the other was shown,<\/span><\/p>\n

Her last breath is drawn but as family lifts dad it’s known,<\/span><\/p>\n
